Session Frequency

The frequency of sessions is determined by you. At the end of the consultation period, we will discuss some options regarding frequency, the number of sessions per week ranging from one to five. You will decide at the outset the frequency at which we will meet, and if in the course of the work the frequency is increased or decreased, you of course will also make that decision.

I think that there is little difference in principle between once a week and five times a week. The difference lies in intensity, since greater frequency makes for a more intense—some might say deeper—grappling with difficulties. Therapy at once or twice a week is often called psychotherapy, and at three, four, or five times a week psychoanalysis. In my view the distinction is less important than whether a patient feels that they are working at the frequency that meets their needs.
